Are You Starving Your Skin?
This makes it hugely important that you support this constant regrowth with selective foods that are good for skin renewal, so it gets off to the best possible start.
It has never been more true to say that we are what we eat and the first place it shows is your skin, so in this post I’m going to explore the best foods for promoting skin renewal from within.
In the next part, I’ll be examining minerals like Selenium and what part they play in a healthy diet for good skin, also fats because we need them too.
For a vibrant glowing complexion and especially where any skin lightening treatment is going to be used, eating the best food for skin to renew fast and with strong cell walls is crucial – it really will underpin the use of topical hyperpigmentation creams or acne treatments in a positive way by providing them with strong healthy skin to work on.
Personally I think we are only just beginning to tap into nature’s secret bounty and only understand a little of what plants have to offer us both inside our bodies and on our skin. In fact there is so much you can do to help skin from the inside out, this post only skims the surface.
The best internal protection against cellular damage comes from fruit and vegetables which contain powerful antioxidants and these push out free radicals caused by pollution – smoking, car exhausts and unfortunately sunlight can all damage our skin causing dark skin spots and wrinkles.
As a good rule of thumb, the darker the skin of a fruit or vegetable the more antioxidants it contains so plumbs, raspberries, strawberries, acacia berries and rhubarb are all great choices, though good advice is to try and eat a rainbow of colors daily, picking from both vegetables and fruit.
Choose vegetables with Betacarotene which is present sweet potatoes, pumpkins and carrots, and Lutein which can be found in Popeye’s favourite, spinach and also in kale. These are both power packed antioxidants and are vital for normal healthy skin cells, so get grating and chopping!
Vitamin E is another important component and antioxidant – it helps protects skin from damage while simultaneously supporting healthy skin cell re-growth.
Foods high in vitamin E are mainly the nut family so try and incorporate a variety of nuts like almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts pine nuts and sunflower seeds into meals as often as possible.
Turbo Charged With Vitamin C
Another excellent reason for eating plenty of fruit is vitamin C, a super powered antioxidant which is needed for so many things in our bodies, we really shouldn’t understate its importance for good health and skin – don’t forget the biggest organ in our body is the skin!
We all need Vitamin C for a strong immune system, glowing skin and to help spots and cuts to heal well and the best fruits and vegetables to get it from are blueberries, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants – all of which have large quantities of antioxidants as do broccoli and sweet potatoes.
Regularly eating these really help us to make the collagen that strengthens capillaries and they in turn supply the skin with blood, nutrients and oxygen – no brainer not too really. Of course you can take vitamin C in tablet form or get it from juice.
